This one-hour case-based lecture will cover the clinical questions to be answered by pathologists during thoracic frozen sections. Topics to be covered include types of specimens, triage of tissue, use of touch preparations, interpretation of frozen sections and differential diagnoses. Cases will include diseases of the lung, regional lymph nodes, pleura and anterior mediastinum.
Objectives:
1. Diagnose invasion in lung adenocarcinomas presenting as ground glass opacities on imaging
2. Utilize cytologic preparations in conjunction with frozen sections in evaluation of lung lesions and mediastinal lymph nodes
3. Discuss differential diagnosis of lung nodules: primary carcinoma v metastases v benign lesions
