This 2021 Annual Meeting session is presented by Monique Dodd, PharmaD, PhC, MLS(ASCP)CM and Teofilo Borunda, PharmaD, MS from Rhodes Group. The clinical laboratory is in a unique position to approach health equity through the lens of objective meta data. With an estimated volume of more than 7 billion clinical tests performed annually in the USA, laboratories and their extensive data sets may be applied by many public health programs to develop population targeted interventions. Additionally, the data that clinical laboratories generate are longitudinal and real time. Laboratories are at the forefront of identifying widespread disease and provide information on disease progression/control. In addition to disease surveillance and monitoring, evaluating the meta data may help provide insights around a population’s health equity. This session will focus on the role of the clinical laboratory in health equity initiatives with a focus on health conditions such as prenatal, diabetes and chronic kidney disease.
Topics covered include:
- Value-based healthcare with an equity lens
- Five domains of social determinants of health
