This session describes and explains the characteristics of a healthcare professional; outlines and evaluates the importance of the phlebotomist as a member of the healthcare team; and analyzes how the phlebotomist is to relate to a diverse patient population. The content includes examples to differentiate appropriate professional behavior and how one is to reflect on his/her role and identify measures to assess and/or improve one's professional traits. Additionally, the presenter examines specific work-related situations, i.e. team work, communication, attire, to demonstrate why professionalism is still important in the 21st century. The importance of protocol and procedures as a component of professionalism is also reviewed.
After attending this session, participants will be able to:
