The American Society for Clinical Pathology has joined over 500 other specialty societies to develop Choosing Wisely recommendations, which are intended to help clinicians and their patients avoid tests, treatments, and procedures that are wasteful or medically unnecessary. Dr. Zhou, who is an ASCP 2017 Choosing Wisely Champion, will review ASCP’s Choosing Wisely recommendations, analyze the evidence behind specific recommendations, and discuss the most effective utilization strategies. At the conclusion of this presentation, you will be better equipped to identify inappropriate laboratory test orders and to work together with your laboratory and clinical colleagues to develop utilization interventions that will improve patient care and healthcare value.
