Description:

As technologists, we don't always get the opportunity to explore the realm of special coagulation. Questions from nurses or providers can send us into panic as we struggle to recall what a mixing study is or which of the many factors is affected by warfarin therapy. Navigating through the infamous coagulation cascade can be downright daunting. This webcast will review the subtle balance of hemostasis that must exist for good health and the conditions which present when hemostasis is out of balance. Participants will be able to review coagulation test terminology and test selection based on different baseline test result scenarios.

After attending this session, participants will be able to:

  • Recognize abnormalities in baseline coagulation tests such as PT and aPTT.
  • Determine which tests are most likely to assist in diagnosing coagulopathies such as factor assays, mixing studies, and antiphospholipid syndrome assays.
  • Explain how some of these test results aid in diagnosing coagulopathies.

Who should attend? Bench Supervisors, Bench Technologists and Technicians, Students
