Upon completion of this activity, you will be able to:
· formulate a working differential diagnosis in a case of acute peritonitis;
· identify key imaging findings in a case of peritoneal mesothelioma;
· describe the gross pathologic findings in a patient with peritoneal mesothelioma;
· describe the histologic features of peritoneal mesothelioma;
· order appropriate immunohistochemical stains to differentiate among primary and secondary peritoneal malignancies; and
· identify the inflammatory stimuli involved in tumorigenesis and particularly in the development of malignant mesothelioma.
