Upon completion of this activity, you will be able to:
· discuss the life cycle of Taenia solium, including parasitic stages and routes of acquisition most likely to result in dissemination to the central nervous system;
· identify risk factors for the development of infection with Taenia solium;
· recognize the signs, symptoms, and radiographic and laboratory results that may indicate infection by Taenia solium;
· discuss the difficulties in developing a diagnosis of Taenia solium, and the limitations of available serologic assays; and
· explain treatment modalities and their applicability in different clinical situations regarding Taenia solium infection.
