Cytology Laboratory
Primary Audience: Pathologists and Clinical Scientists
Secondary Audience: Residents, Laboratory Technologist/Scientist (Includes all sub-specialty areas), Students, Pathologist Assistants, Laboratory Directors and Educators
Upon completion of this activity, you will be able to:
· understand the recommendations regarding handling of specimens obtained by endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS) guided transbronchial needle aspiration (TBNA);
· grasp the preanalytical factors which impact the quality and quantity of cytology tissue available for diagnosis, ancillary testing and biomarker reporting;
· learn the crucial importance of specimen triage in the era of molecular testing on smaller specimens as well as the essential elements of thoracic cytology specimen triage to ensure ample yield for on-site adequacy assessment and tissue preservation; and
· explore the biomarker landscape of non-small cell lung cancer testing and the pre-analytical factors which may cause false negative results
