Upon completion of this activity, you will be able to:
· explain the role of light microscopy, immunofluorescence, and electron microscopy in the evaluation of renal biopsy;
· discuss the importance of examining the kidney biopsy under a dissecting microscope to evaluate adequacy;
· describe different etiologic processes and pathophysiologic mechanisms leading to allograft dysfunction in a transplant kidney;
· discuss the importance of knowing the clinical indication for the biopsy when evaluating adequacy of kidney biopsy specimens; and
describe conditions that predominantly affect the medulla.
