Upon completion of this activity, you will be able to:
· describe the morphologic characteristics of the microgranular variant of acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL):
· identify the immunophenotype of microgranular acute promyelocytic leukemia and compare with hypergranular APL;
· identify the definitive tests for diagnosing acute promyelocytic leukemia with PML:RARA; and
discuss the importance of the rapid diagnosis of acute promyelocytic leukemia to initiate treatment.
