Upon completion of this activity, you will be able to:
· describe the expected patient response to platelet transfusion;
· describe the laboratory presentation that may indicate that a patient is experiencing platelet refractoriness;
· explain the reasons a patient may not be responding to platelet transfusion as expected; and
identify avenues for investigating platelet refractoriness, including advantages and disadvantages of each.
