Upon completion of this activity, you will be able to:
· identify the cytomorphologic and histologic features of synovial sarcoma;
· identify key ancillary studies including immunohistochemical stains and cytogenetic analysis that support the diagnosis of synovial sarcoma;
· distinguish synovial sarcoma from other malignant soft tissue lesions including leiomyosarcoma, malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor, solitary fibrous tumor, and Ewing sarcoma; and
· discuss the general clinical presentation, treatment, and prognosis of patients with synovial sarcoma.
