Upon completion of this activity, you will be able to:
· describe the biological relationship between the thyroid gland and other endocrine organs in relation to hormones and proteins;
· describe the relationship between thyroglobulin (Tg), thyroglobulin antibodies (TgAb), and differentiated thyroid cancers (DTCs);
· discuss strengths and weaknesses of current immunoassay methods for detecting Tg ;
· summarize the utility of antibodies in the diagnoses of autoimmune thyroid diseases;
· discuss the clinical significance of TgAb detection in the management of DTCs; and
· describe the clinical importance of using Tg as a tumor surrogate marker for DTCs.
