Upon completion of this activity, you will be able to:
· recognize the cytomorphologic features of gastrointestinal neuroectodermal tumor (GNET) in peritoneal fluid cytology specimens using air-dried and alcohol-fixed preparations;
· select optimal cytology specimen triage for the diagnostic workup of GNET;
· choose an appropriate panel of ancillary studies to confirm the diagnosis of GNET;
· distinguish pathologic entities in the differential diagnosis of GNET by their primary cytomorphologic, immunohistochemical, and molecular characteristics; and
· discuss the clinical prognosis and management of GNET.
